You may remember a while back when the iPad launched, Israel banned the import of the Apple iPad on the basis that the wifi signal did not adhere to Israel standards. It looks as though that ban has been lifted now. Word of this came from Yechiel Shabi, a spokesperson for the Communications Ministry.
‘Following the completion of intensive technical scrutiny, Israel Minister of Communications Moshe Kakhlon approved the import of the iPad to Israel’.
Israel had originally banned the Apple iPad from entering the country on the basis that the WiFi transmitter was set to American standards and could interfere with local WiFi signals, including those of the IDF.
This may or may not be the real reason behind the issue. Israel enforced a similar ban when the Apple iPhone originally launched. It will be interesting to find out if yet another country-wide ban meets Apple next big gadget release.
